Wyndham Basketball Association is pleased to announce a working partnership with Welcoming Australia.
As the largest basketball association in the western metropolitan area of Melbourne, Wyndham Basketball has over 10,000 active participants across the Wyndham Basketball competitions and programs. From introductory and development grassroots basketball programs to junior and senior domestic competition, through to junior and senior representative teams competing in the Victoria Junior Basketball League and Big V League respectively. Additionally, Wyndham Basketball has one of the largest offerings in Inclusion Basketball programs.
“Wyndham Basketball is excited to announce our partnership with Welcoming Australia. For over 50 years Wyndham Basketball has been a part of the Wyndham community and in that time our participation levels have grown year on year. We are proud to have a diverse participant base which is reflective of basketball and the communities we serve. Our new partnership with Welcoming Australia with the ‘Welcome to the Game Project’, will see young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds living with disabilities participating in a camp in the April school holidays.
The camp will provide exposure to Wyndham Basketball as a community space for opportunities for members of community from a culturally and linguistically diverse background living with a disability, to become active participants. Welcoming Australia are the leaders in the multicultural space and community, and we look forward to working with Bita, Ross and the team at Welcoming Australia, very closely over the journey” Jason Kelly, General Manager, Wyndham Basketball.
Welcoming Australia (WA) is a national not-for profit organisation which exists to cultivate a culture of welcome and create a future where people of all backgrounds have equal opportunity to belong, contribute and thrive. Welcome to the Game, part of the Welcoming Clubs Initiative, supports greater access and inclusion in sport and recreation for young people with disabilities from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. By connecting participants and their families with local opportunities and supporting community clubs to create more inclusive environments, the program builds the conditions for ongoing, independent participation in sport and recreation.
“Welcoming Australia is very proud to be working with Wyndham Basketball Association. Community connection is important, and we see Basketball as a very popular activity for our young children and teenagers with a disability and from a different background. Basketball keeps them active, fit and healthy, however, the connection to community is a very important factor. We are looking forward to working with Jason and the team at Wyndham Basketball to advance our shared goals of creating welcoming sporting environments.” Bita Divsarnaz, Project Coordinator – Welcome to the Game, Welcoming Australia
