Werribee Basketball Association is delighted to announce the 2018 Big V Coaching appointments for the Division 1 Women, Youth League Women and Youth League Men’s teams. After weeks of extensive interviews and screening processes the WBA are pleased to announce the following coaches for the upcoming Big V season.

Division 1 Women, Head Coach – Reece Potter

Reece is an experienced coach who has been part of Australian junior teams, WNBL and SEABL teams and many other elite level programs. Reece said, “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the senior women’s program at Werribee. The region and the association has enormous potential and I look forward to helping develop an elite pathway for female athletes in Melbourne’s west.”

 

Reece’s qualifications and experience includes:

Youth League Women, Head Coach – Mason Rogers

Mason is a young and upcoming coach who has great knowledge of the game. He has the talent and ability to lead the Youth League Women program to great heights in the upcoming season. Mason was delighted on his appointment and said, “As a new member of the Werribee coaching staff, I am excited to be leading the Werribee YLW’s program in 2018. I look forward to embracing this new role and the challenges it brings. The club is heading in a great direction under Reece Potter and I look forward to helping create a culture that can set the standard for the future generations.”

Mason’s qualifications and experience includes:

  • VJBL Representative Coach at Nunawading & Bulleen
  • Big V Assistant Coach (Bulleen)

Youth League Women, Assistant Coach – Paul Jones

Paul will assist Mason for the 2018 season and the WBA is confident that Paul’s coaching experience will help the team achieve its goals and ambitions. Paul said, “I look forward to supporting the women’s program in the development of our players, coaches and continue to work on building the link with our VJBL program.”

Youth League Men, Head Coach – Dion Jewell

Dion is a Werribee product who has been part of the Association for over 25 years. Along with his coaching experience, he has an ability to build rapport with players and is heavily invested in WBA programs and player development. Dion said, “I am very excited to be able to step in to the Werribee’s Big V program to lead the Youth League Men’s side. To be able to combine this role with the Junior Boys Lead gives me the opportunity to provide a pathway for our young players from juniors through to the State Champ Men’s team. This is something I am very passionate about and look forward to seeing the development of the clubs’ future.”

The Werribee Basketball Association is pleased to announce Under 20 men and Youth League tryouts on the following dates:

First Session – Tuesday 31st of October from 7.30pm-9pm. Eagle Stadium CRTS 1 and 2.  

Second Session –  Thursday 2nd of November from 7.30pm-9pm. Eagle Stadium CRTS 6 and 7.

Third Session – Wednesday 8th of November from 8pm-9.30pm. Eagle Stadium CRT 12. YL ONLY. 

Fourth Session – Sunday the 12th of November from 12pm-2pm. Eagle Stadium. ** IF REQUIRED

Cost of attending trials

There is a tryout registration fee of $10. This fee covers the overhead costs of running the Representative Trials.

Information for players trialing from other associations

All players trialing from other associations must provide a signed “Permission to Train” (PTT) form. If this form is not provided, you will not be allowed to trial. This form can be found on the VJBL website.

Information for players unable to attend trials

*Please note that attendance of at least one (1) session is required to be selected in a side.

*Any player unable to attend 1 or more trials MUST apply for an exemption by emailing reece.potter@wyndhambasketball.com. Exemptions will be granted at the discretion of the WBA Representative Committee Chairperson & the Player/ Coach Development Manager.

*Any player unable to attend 1 or more trials MUST still register & pay online.

*Players who are injured are still required to register & attend trials to observe. Injured players must provide a medical certificate & apply for an exemption as above.

*Players who are sick/ ill are not required to attend trials, but must still register & pay online. Sick players must provide medical certificate & apply for an exemption as above.
