Become a Referee!
Refereeing is a rewarding experience and helps you to become a better player or coach. By seeing the game through a different lens you gain a deep understanding of game mechanics and rule interpretation.
Refereeing is about managing the game and everyone involved from players, coaches and spectators to ensure a safe and fair game is played.
When you become Referee you learn valuable life skills, such as:
- Effective communication
- Problem solving
- Making judgement calls
- Quick and decisive decision making
- Acting with authority and confidence
- Managing groups of people of all ages, and
- Conflict resolution.
The Wyndham Basketball Association provides an online beginner’s course for interested people wanting to become referees, to ensure we have sufficient qualified officials to officiate games for our domestic competitions throughout the week.

Referee Pathways
There are some amazing opportunities available to referees who chose to pursue refereeing at the elite level. These range from refereeing Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) games all the way through to Australian Junior Championships and National Leagues.
