Werribee Basketball is pleased to announce Mason Rogers will coach the Youth League Women’s side in 2019-20.

Mason took the reins of our YL2W team in 2018, impressing with his attitude and application to rebuilding the program. He is also Girls Coaching Lead for our VJBL program here at Werribee Basketball.

The Youth Women will again play in D2 and after showing great signs of improvement throughout the 2018 season, the team has its eyes firmly fixed on promotion going forward.

Mason said he was excited about the next phase and wanted to continue to improve on the development made last season.

“I was really proud of the way the team evolved throughout the season,” Mason explained. “And I’m determined to ensure we continue on that path and get better again in 2019.”

Werribee Basketball’s Business Manager Andrew Summerville said the association was pleased to secure a coach with Mason’s potential.

“Mason has great knowledge for someone his age and we hope to see him continue to prosper here at Werribee,” Mr Summerville said.

“He did a great job guiding the team last year, and we hope to see the girls come on in leaps and bounds in 2019.”

Mason said he had one clear goal in mind for the upcoming season.

“We only just missed the playoffs last season, so making them is an obvious goal next year. Ultimately I’d love to see our Youth Women climb out of division 2 and be competing with the top teams in the Big V.”

The WBA is excited to announce our Werribee Devils senior representative women’s team will compete against the best teams in the Big V competition next season.

After a restructure of the Big V, due to the introduction of the new elite league, the team was invited to compete in the Championship Women’s (CW) division. This provides both our Women and Men the chance to compete at the top level of Big V during the 2019 season.

Werribee Basketball’s Business Manager Andrew Summerville said the association was thrilled to accept the invitation for the women to play in the Championship division.

“To have both of our elite teams playing at the top level of Big V is a fantastic opportunity for our association. It provides our elite program with the opportunity to develop and compete against the best teams in the Big V competition. Women’s basketball is a key focus area for us and increasing participation is a top priority. Thankfully the restructure of the league has given us an opportunity to go up to the Championship division, which will play an integral part of our female player development pathway.”

CW coach Reece Potter said he was eager to test his team against Big V’s best.

“The team showed a great deal of improvement throughout the 2018 season and I was excited about where we can go in 2019. Now, knowing we’ll be playing in Championship division, I can’t wait to get the team together and measure up against the top teams in Big V.”

Men’s coach Warren Estcourt was also buoyant when looking ahead to the 2019 season.

“Our team will look to build on the positive signs we showed throughout 2018. We will have our eyes firmly on making playoffs this season and ultimately, winning a championship.”

After a strong run into the playoffs last season, the Youth League Men side will take on Division 1 again, while our Youth League Women will look to improve in Division 2.

“We’re determined to field four strong Big V teams in 2019 and want all teams to be contending towards the pointy end of their seasons,” Mr Summerville said.

The Big V season gets underway in March next year.

Werribee Basketball Association is co-hosting the WFM pre-season tournament.

The Junior Representative Pre-season Tournament is on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of November and is designed to fast-track junior representative teams in preparation for their forthcoming VJBL season.

Werribee will be hosting the U/12 Boys and Girls tournaments.

All Werribee Devils VJBL teams will participate in the tournament, alongside VJBL teams from across the state.

With a policy of allowing athlete movement between teams to assist final team selection and an ethos on team development, the tournament has proved a great way for VJBL teams to build team chemistry off-court while refining their on-court preparation.

PLEASE NOTE: Werribee rep teams DO NOT need to complete team registrations as all teams are registered by the WBA.

Our Domestic Development Program has again proven popular, but we still have limited availability for our Tuesday Thomas Carr College session.

Please note, the Thursday session at Eagle Stadium has sold out out.

8 week Domestic Development Program (DDP) provides extra development opportunities for domestic players who want to improve their game so that they can enjoy participating, competing and succeeding at whatever level they desire.

The DDP also bridges the gap between domestic and representative basketball for athletes and coaches.
