The LGBTIQ+ community includes people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer/Questioning. They make up about 11% of Australia’s population. However, many LGBTIQ+ people don’t take part in sports or physical activities. This is often because they’ve had bad experiences, like discrimination or harassment.
When sports aren’t inclusive, LGBTIQ+ people miss out on the benefits of being active. These benefits include better physical and mental health, and social connections. Sports can offer more memberships and improve people’s lives.
